'Op Safed Sagar' Veteran Attacked With Iron Rod By Parking Staff In Gurugram - NDTV

**Gurugram, Haryana –** A veteran of India’s “Operation Safed Sagar” was assaulted on Tuesday evening at a commercial complex in Gurugram after a dispute over parking, ND TV reported. According to eyewitnesses and the victim’s family, the 58‑year‑old former Air Force officer, identified as Wing Commander (Retd.) Rajesh Kumar, was approached by a parking attendant who demanded payment for a spot he claimed he had already paid for. When Kumar refused to comply, the attendant allegedly seized an iron rod from a nearby maintenance cart and struck the veteran on the back and shoulder, causing visible injuries.

Paramedics arrived within minutes, and Kumar was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for contusions and a possible rib fracture. The Gurugram police filed a first‑information report (FIR) against the parking staff member, identified as 32‑year‑old Ramesh Sharma, and have detained him for questioning. Police spokesperson Inspector Arvind Singh said the investigation will examine whether the altercation was provoked by a misunderstanding over parking fees or if there were underlying motives, and assured that “the law will take its course.”

Veterans’ organizations, including the Indian Ex‑Servicemen’s Welfare Association, have condemned the attack, calling it “an affront to those who served the nation.” The Ministry of Defence issued a brief statement expressing concern over the incident and promising to cooperate fully with law‑enforcement agencies.
